Sleeman launches suit on B.C. brewery

Dead Frog Brewery is telling national Sleeman Breweries Ltd. it won’t be intimidated by a lawsuit.

The lawsuit launched by Sleeman Breweries claims that the clear-beer-bottle design that Dead Frog began using in June for three of its beers is owned by Sleeman Breweries, according to the Vancouver Province.

“We taste different and we look different so this lawsuit is a waste of time and energy,” Dead Frog Brewery founder Derrick Smith told the Vancouver Province.

The Dead Frog bottle is embossed with its own logo and the clear bottle design is used by other brewers such as Carlsberg and Miller Genuine Draft.

Regardless, Sleeman is pressing ahead with the lawsuit in an attempt to protect its trademark bottle.
