Can someone tell me whats goign at Challenger? Their share price is down to 88 cents from $7. They sacked staff and management all promoted themselves. Are these guys a secure business partner for us? I hear they are planning on ditching the mortgage management side of things to focus on plan etc? Any comments?

Mark Whittingham is scum and needs to be finished up! Another angry broker!!! | 02/04/2009
I don't understand how this can continue to happen. If this was a normal consumer, not a business owner that was affected he would have been dealt with already. MFAA what do we pay you for! 20+ cases and still no major action, this is not good enough.

What can the MFAA do? OzBoy | 02/04/2009
Another angry broker!!! get a grip if the business/es owned by Whittingham are not MFAA members there is nothing they can do, probably even less if they are a member. You should direct your anger to the brokers who have not complained to their respective consumer affairs departments, if they get enough complaints they will act, but again it has nothing to do with the MFAA, I am at a loss as to how many brokers belong to the MFAA and have no idea what they can and can't do, just staggering.

Mark Whittingham scam brokers Brisbane Broker | 03/04/2009
Mark provied a money back guarantee if the leads that were supplied was not up to the standard promissed. As it turned out the agreed number of leads were not supplied. The small number of leads I received were not contactable, old and bogus. I requested Mark to execrise the money back guarantee. No phone calls, only abusive emails were received from Mark. Therefore still $900 out of pocket..........This guy MUST be stopped.

He has now removed any references to his recognisable business names and his own name (wonder why) but the idiot is recognisable from his 1800 phone number.

Thanks to kind hearted people like you guys speaking out. What happened to me was, I paid by cheque on a Friday to Mark's account, and I saw complaints over the week-end, and I stopped the cheque on Monday morning.

Also, for those who want to rely on purchasing leads to survive, my experience tells me that it will not work. I did work for an accountancy firm as an in-house broker, which has genuine leads, but what actually happened is beyond believe. The first thing that they asked me to do was to put the customer on low-doc, irrespective of whether the customer can achieve by full-doc or not, because ..... they have their other plans ..... Trust me, work on your network, and generate your own leads. It does take time, but that is the only way. If you cannot, find a better job/business, particularly for the younger folks.

It may not be much, however Will | 07/05/2009
While I have not been ripped off by Mark, I did give his offer some consideration some time ago, and I'm thankful that I did some research and found out what he's all about. I do, however, receive continuous SPAM from him and decided to call his 1800 number and tell them to take me off. I then realised that it diverts to his mobile, so every time I call, he will pay for the free call and the mobile diversion. Why don't we all rally together and call his 1800 as often as possible - true, the money goes to Telstra (not much better) but it brings me a very small amount of satisfaction knowing that every time I hit redial I'm costing him money.
Dial away!

I have been duped by him for $695 last may 2008. I got leads for 2 days & all stopped. Many emails & phone calls. Never returned any calls. I got my wife to call him & he abused her. I went to the Fair Trading in NSW. The judge said that somebody is trying to liquidate his company and that she could not do anything. Absolute waste of money & time including the time spent at court. He never appeared at the court too. I thought I was the only one but it appears that many are the victims. I will pursue him to the last breath. Anybody that can help, please call me on 02 9897 9696

You can also try calling his 1800 number (which diverts to his mobile) - at least he is paying STD rates for the call.

Also, try using another e-mail address and hitting his site as a home loan client - will be interesting to see where the 'lead' ends up.

I am staggered so many of you bought leads. Did it occur to you why he was not writing the loans himself. $2,000 average income for an upfront $ 100 cost for the lead - hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Didnt this give you a warning? Caveat Emptor

MFAA A's comment | 10/06/2009
Can someone please tell me, other than running expensive "get-together" fuctions, and sucking up to the right pople in order to become a dominating representative in the indstry, what has MFAA done for its members in terms of (a) commission cuts, (b) the current practice of immediate bank approval for banks' branches, but take weeks for brokers, (c) why does ASIC agree to let MFAA exercise its disciplinary action. Sad to say, I am a member, because the other mob is even orse. It is not because I am better, but the other guy is worse. What is going on? Apart from fulfilling their own agenda, what representation has this mob done for its members?

These allegations are untrue John Harris | 17/06/2009
These allegations are untrue. You guys bought leads as you were too lazy to source your own referrers. Did it occur to you why some one would sell a lead that would generate about 10 times the income if he worte the loan himself.

Mark Whittingham's business has been wound up by Supreme Court. Maybe John Harris can use some of the royalties he receives from the book How To Win Friends and Influence people to pay for some of the losses under the HLSSA leads scam.

I would like to know where he got the database to market his services to and if he breached the anti-spam act to send a group email out. Some one has supplied this outfit with plenty of information and as far as I know unless you get permission to email you cannot send any email. I think by memory the fine is $500,000.

Nearly sucked in Nic | 22/07/2009
I did some searches before dealing with him and nearly got sucked in to 'buying' a database, supposedly from one of his clients who was retiring.
Some 55,000 "leads" were meant to be provided & he presented some dodgy 'contract' but wouldn't let my solicitor look over it, present my own or pay the database price to a solicitors trust account until the database was verified to be existent.

Luckily, i dint pay him anything. from looking at the above comments, something needs to be done to stop this guy from ripping off more brokers.

I too have been ripped off by Mark Whittingham. I refused to pay him any further funds, he then lodged a claim against me via VCAT saying I owed him just over $3,000 for leads which were not false (some of which he had previously sold to me others were double ups). It cost me in legal fees at my end, not to mention I paid him a portion of this to get rid of him. I have paid this guy thousands in the 12mth period 2007 - 2008. Since I have seen this forum today, I am now starting to wonder what action I can take to get some money back.
